Removing Non-CA Products

The rmcompt.exe utility is a self-extracting executable that removes non-CA antivirus products from your computer. If you are replacing an existing antivirus product from another company, this utility can greatly simplify the task of rolling out CA TM. You can run rmcompt.exe as a preinstall process using the Remote Install Utility or as a standalone program.

You can find rmcompt.exe in the Common\Bin\Win32\Utility directory of the CA TM 8.1 CD or download it from the following URL:

http://supportconnectw.ca.com/public/antivirus/downloads/rmcompt.exe

To remove another company's anti-malware product

  1. Install the Remote Installation Utility.

Using this utility you can install CA TM to multiple remote machines simultaneously if administrative control is available over those same machines. Note: Windows Vista, Windows 95, 98, and Me machines cannot be the target of the Remote Installation Utility.

  2. In the Remote Installation Utility select Options, Installation Source menu item in the Remote Installation.
  3. Expand the Pre Install item in the tree and select Windows NT/2K/XP/.Net (x86).
  4. Click the edit button and modify the settings for this installation source as follows:
    1. Specify the Share Name as INOREMOTE$
    2. Specify the Share Path as <eAV Install Path>\InoRemote
    3. Specify the Sub Directory as \PreInstall
    4. Specify the Exe Name as RMCOMPT.EXE
    5. Enable the Program will reboot machine option.

Note: Prior to initiating a remote install you must download and copy the Rmcompt.exe from the following URL above to the [Home]\InoRemote\PreInstall directory.

  5. Follow the normal process of selecting targets and initiating the remote installations.

Using the CA Unicenter Software Delivery Option

Software delivery can deliver and run the RMCOMPT.EXE package found in the Utility directory of the eTrust ITM / Antivirus 8.x CD. When the package is executed it will copy its contents to a temporary directory and begin execution there.

Using a Windows Login script

The RMCOMPT.EXE package can be downloaded copied from the http://supportconnectw.ca.com/public/antivirus/downloads/rmcompt.exe to a common, shared directory, accessible to the login script. The login script then invokes utility by invoking RMCOMPT.EXE from the shared directory. When the package is executed it copies its contents to a temporary directory and begins execution there. If the utility does not find any products installed or if the products require a uninstall password, it will exit without taking any action.

From the Command Prompt

To run standalone, copy rmcompt.exe to the target machine and run either in a DOS box or from Explorer.
